Two Thermal Label Technologies

Different applications need different thermal technologies. Tell us your use case and printer model — we'll recommend the right option.

Direct Thermal Labels

Heat-sensitive label stock that develops the print directly when heated by the printer head. No ribbon required. Most cost-effective for short-term applications.

  • No ribbon needed (lower per-label cost)
  • Best for shipping labels, picking lists, receipts
  • Print durability: weeks to months
  • Will fade with prolonged sun or heat exposure
  • Common sizes including 4" x 6" shipping label format

Thermal Transfer Labels

Standard label stock that requires a ribbon — the printer head melts ribbon ink onto the label surface. More durable, longer-lasting prints.

  • Requires thermal transfer ribbon
  • Best for inventory tags, asset labels, long-term applications
  • Print durability: years
  • Resistant to fading, abrasion, and most environments
  • Wider material options (paper, synthetic, polypropylene)

Common Thermal Label Applications

Thermal Label FAQs

What is the difference between direct thermal and thermal transfer labels?

Direct thermal labels use chemically-treated stock that turns black when heated by the printer head — no ribbon required. Best for short-term use like shipping and pick-list labels. Thermal transfer labels require a ribbon — the printer melts ribbon ink onto the label. Best for long-term durability where labels need to last months or years. We offer both — choose based on your application.

What printer brands are your labels compatible with?

Our thermal labels are compatible with major commercial label printers from manufacturers like Zebra, Honeywell, Brother, and Dymo. Tell us your specific printer model during the quote and we'll confirm exact compatibility — including correct core size, label dimensions, gap/notch placement, and adhesive profile for your printer's tolerances.

What core sizes do you offer?

Standard sizes include 1" cores for desktop printers (most common in retail and small shipping operations) and 3" cores for industrial printers (high-volume warehouse and logistics applications). Custom core sizes available on request. Confirm your printer's required core size during the quote.

Do you offer rolls and fanfold formats?

Both. Rolls are wrapped around a central core for internal printer compartments. Fanfold labels are folded in zig-zag stacks for external feeding — useful for high-volume production where loading rolls frequently is impractical. Choice depends on your printer's input mechanism and production volume.

What's the minimum order?

Quote-based — minimums vary by label dimensions and quantity. Industrial label orders typically skew toward larger volumes (rolls of thousands of labels). Tell us your needs during the quote and we'll confirm feasibility and pricing tiers.

How long does production take?

5-10 working days for typical thermal label orders, depending on quantity, dimensions, and complexity. Bulk orders may require longer. Add 5-7 business days for international shipping. Rush options may be available — ask during your quote.

Can you ship internationally?

Yes. We ship thermal labels to the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and most of Europe. Shipping costs are calculated by destination, weight, and speed. All shipping options included in your quote.
