Holds the pile down
Keeps towel loops flat during stitching so the design doesn't sink in.
Specialized embroidery digitizing for towels, robes and terry cloth — files tuned for high-pile fabric with proper underlay structure, water-soluble topping support, and stitch density adjusted to prevent the pile from swallowing your logo. Production-ready for hotel and spa decorators, custom apparel shops, and uniform suppliers.
The technique
Towels and terry cloth have a soft, looped pile. A standard embroidery file sinks into those loops and comes out washed-out — towel digitizing counters that from the first stitch.
Water-soluble topping
WST is a thin film placed on top of the towel during embroidery, held in place by the embroidery frame. Our digitizing assumes its use.
Keeps towel loops flat during stitching so the design doesn't sink in.
Forces the embroidery thread to sit on the surface instead of disappearing into the fabric.
Removed by hand right after stitching, no special tools needed.
Any remnants disappear completely the first time the towel is washed.
Where it's used
Each application has slightly different requirements — a monogram on a hotel bath towel isn't digitized the same way as a large logo on a beach towel. Tell us the towel type and placement, and we digitize for that exact combination.
What works on towels
Monograms, block letters and large logos hold up best against the pile.
Small text, thin linework and intricate patterns get lost in the loops.
Anything thinner won't hold its shape once the pile settles around it.
Gradients and shading don't translate onto plush terry fabric.

Frequently asked questions
Towels and terry cloth have a soft, looped pile that stitches sink into — a standard file looks washed-out and muddy on plush fabric. Towel digitizing adjusts underlay density, pull compensation and stitch density specifically to counter that.
A thin film placed on top of the towel during stitching, held by the embroidery frame. It holds the pile down and forces the thread to sit on top of the fabric instead of sinking in, then tears away and dissolves completely in the first wash. Our digitizing assumes water-soluble topping use.
Bold, simple shapes — monograms, block letters, large logos. Avoid fine text or intricate patterns; minimum stroke width is 2mm, and solid colors work far better than gradients.
$10 per design under 5 inches, $18 over 5 inches — the same flat-rate pricing as standard embroidery digitizing, with no premium for the towel-specific technique.
3–5 hour turnaround, the same as our standard digitizing.
Not directly through this page — this covers digitizing files only, for your own embroidery shop or contractor. Finished embroidered towels for hotel/spa orders, branded merchandise or corporate gifting can be arranged on a per-quote basis through our production partners; tell us during your quote if you need files only or a finished product.
All major commercial formats — DST, PES, EXP, JEF and others on request, the same format range as our standard digitizing service.
Hotel and spa linens, gym and athletic towels, beach towels, bath robes, and golf towels all work well. Microfiber towels have a smaller pile and are simpler to digitize, but still benefit from the same underlay optimization.
