Direct thermal
Heat-sensitive label stock that develops the print directly when heated by the printer head. No ribbon needed — lower per-label cost. Best for shipping labels, picking lists and receipts. Print durability: weeks to months, and will fade with prolonged sun or heat exposure. Common in the 4"×6" shipping label format.
Thermal transfer
Standard label stock printed via a ribbon — the printer head melts ribbon ink onto the label surface. Best for inventory tags, asset labels and long-term applications. Print durability: years, resistant to fading, abrasion and most environments. Wider material options — paper, synthetic, polypropylene.
